Practical steps for coordinating colours, materials and ceilings before finishing work begins, with the details needed for a clear quotation.
Finishing choices work best when reviewed together: the wall colour beside the floor, the tile texture under the lighting, and the ceiling height after services are installed. Choosing each material in isolation can create conflicts in colours, levels or the order of work. Before approving paint, tiles and gypsum finishes, describe how the space will be used and photograph its current condition. Then agree on samples and a simple layout showing how the elements fit together. You do not need every detail settled at the start, but you do need clear priorities.
Identify whether the space is a home, office or shop, how many people use it, and its foot traffic and cleaning requirements. Note areas exposed to water, sources of daylight and furniture that will remain. This makes comparisons more useful: a colour that looks right in a photo may look different on site. Photograph the walls, floors and ceilings, and record visible defects before covering them with a new decorative finish.

Choose a small colour shortlist and request a sample on the intended surface or a movable sample board. View it in the morning and evening, under the lighting you will use, and beside the flooring sample. Dulux recommends testing colours in the room under different lighting conditions, so do not rely on a phone screen alone. Select the sheen and cleaning requirements using the product data, and ask for surface repairs and primers to be included in the quotation.

Review the tile’s intended use, size, texture and layout, then discuss cut positions, joints and transitions at doorways. Reducing joint width should not become a separate goal from following installation instructions. MAPEI’s guide links joint width to the substrate, tile size and intended use. Request a layout drawing and a joint sample, and review surface levelness and the appropriate adhesive. Avoid applying one joint size to every project.

Plan the lighting, air-conditioning openings and maintenance access alongside the gypsum design, and check the available ceiling height. Discuss the purpose of the lighting, such as general, task or accent lighting, rather than increasing the number of fittings without a clear need. A specialist should review the positions, wiring routes and maintenance access. You can read about gypsum board types (Arabic) and magnetic lighting (Arabic) to understand options that may be worth comparing.

An attractive finish still needs appropriate falls, waterproofing, ventilation and junction details. Gyproc Middle East explains that its moisture-resistant boards are not a waterproof barrier. Select the board and complete system for the exposure conditions and product instructions, and review the details before concealed work is closed. Keep progress photos and a record of the agreed specifications to support later checks and handover.

State the project city, such as Tabuk, Al Wajh, Duba, Jeddah, Riyadh or Madinah. Availability must be confirmed after the site requirements have been reviewed. Ask the quotation to state quantities, specifications, exclusions and how changes during the work will be approved.
Compare quotations against the same work items, and keep the agreed material codes and samples. Review the work sequence with the team: services and preparation, then closing up, finishes, protection and cleaning. Set interim inspection points so that differences can be identified before the end of the project. If a colour, size or detail changes, record its effect on quantities and timing before the work proceeds.
